The Neon Genesis Evangelion series has been a very well-received piece of anime in both The Jihad (just ask Mal) and in places all over the world, including Australia.

The series is centred around a 14-15 year old male adolescent named Shinji Ikari, and his troubles relating to the Evangelion series of 'robots', including his own EVA Unit 01.  Other characters include Asuka Soryu, the headstrong pilot of Unit 02, Rei Ayanami, the (slightly) unusual pilot of Unit 00, and Shinji's father, the Commander Gendo Ikari.  This is by no means all of the characters involved in the storyline, as to describe each of them would require a lot of time and patience, something that I sometimes lack.

The main enemies are the 'Angels', entities that are (supposedly) trying to incite the Third Impact by coming into contact with Adam, which is (supposedly) stored in Terminal Dogma, in the lower levels of the NERV HQ.  Other enemies I cannot tell you about, as this would only ruin the entire plot for you, the reader.

Some main themes of the series are the ever-present 'searching for self', 'searching for happiness', and the 'searching for attention'.  Other themes, well, you'll just have to see the entire series to determine.

I feel that the NGE series, and the upcoming movies (the titles of which I have inconveniently forgotten) are an excellent introduction to the world of Japanese animation.

Oh yeah, I give the series five (5) stars.
