The soundtrack has 18 tracks and clocks in at 73+ minutes. I'll go through the track list and give you my impressions of each song.
1. F.A.K.K. U - "F.A.K.K. U"
Just has the standard heavy beats and the singer chanting for the prerequsite "Sex, Drugs, and Rock and
Roll." It's not bad, but it wouldn't have bothered me if it wasn't there.
2. Monster Magnet - "Silver Future"
Nothing innovative with this new song from Dave Wyndorf and crew. Then again, doesn't really have to be
because Monster Magent kicks it anyway.
3. MDFMK - "Missing Time"
They might have changed the name from KMFDM, but the sound is pretty much the same. Probably my favorite
song on the cd.
4. Pantera - "Immortally Insane"
5. Zilch - "Inside the Pervert Mound"
I must say that I've never heard of Zilch before hearing this song, but it's not bad. Probably wouldn't run
right out and get their album, but this song works on the cd.
6. Insane Clown Posse w/ Twiztid - "Dirt Ball"
Not the best ICP song that I've ever heard. Doesn't have the humor that is in some of their other songs,
but it's not horrible. One that I can skip over and not miss it all that much.
7. System of a Down - "Storaged"
A band that is starting to grow on me a little. This is the shortest song on the album at 1:17. Wish it
would have been longer because it's a good track.
8. Days of the New - "Rough Day"
Just like ICP, this is not one of Days of the New's best songs. Their track on The Crow: Salvation is much
better. Can skip this one too and not miss it.
9. Sinisstar - "Psychosexy"
This song is kind of a toss-up. It doesn't really suck, but it doesn't jump out and impress me either.
Sometimes I'll listen to it and sometimes I won't.
10. Queens of the Stone Age - "Infinity"
This one is in the same catagory as "Psychosexy." Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
11. Machine Head - "Alcoholocaust"
Now we're getting somewhere. While the last two songs aren't bad, they don't exactly seem to fit the bill
of "Heavy Metal." This song, however, fits the bill very well. Definately one not to miss.
12. Full Devil Jacket - "Green Iron Fist"
Another song that grabs you by the head and screams in your ear until it bleeds. Good song. :)
13. Hate Dept. - "Hit Back"
This song has a little bit of a Ministry influence, which isn't a bad thing. It doesn't rock quite has
hard as the previous two songs, but I'm feeling it.
14. Puya - "Tirale"
It's definatey a metal song. Halfway though they kick into a Carlos Santana-esque solo which is very
fresh. However, the song is about a minute too long. Not bad though.
15. Apartment 26 - "Dystopia"
If Apartment 26's album sounds like this, I might have to go out and get it. Really into this song.
16. Billy Idol - "Buried Alive"
No, you're not seeing things.....that says Billy Idol and he is sounding good on this track. It's not an
80's sounding song either. It has a very modern feel to it. I was pleasantly surprised with this track.
17. Coal Chamber - "Wishes"
Probably the heaviest song on the album. Once again, Coal Chamber serves it up loud and heavy. Awesome song.
18. Bauhaus - "The Dog's a Vapour"
While I'm not really into the whole goth rock scene, this song isn't a bad way to come down after the
metal barrage in the previous 17 songs.
To sum up, I must say that this was worth the $14 I paid for it. I knew that Monster Magnet, MDFMK, and Pantera would deliver, but I wasn't sure about the rest. For the most part, they came through as well. However, ICP and Days of the New were kind of disappointing and F.A.K.K. U, Sinisstar, and Queens of the Stone Age were average at best and I wouldn't have missed them had they not been there.
Overall, I give the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack 4 out of 5 stars. y tuned for more reviews. That is, if this one doesn't suck too and you actually want me to do more. :)
