The 13th Warrior
The man with the muddled accent is back. Antonio Banderas, best known for
his portrayals of the Man With The Guitar Case in Desperado, the
over-acheiving assasin in Assasins, and as Zorro's replacement in Mask of
Zorro, is this time attempting to play an Arab diplomat who gets sucked
into a Norse Viking Fantasy.
This movie was very enjoyable so long as you can suspend your disbelief a
little more than usual. The fight scenes are well done and fairly graphic,
and the acting by the "Vikings" is superb. Even Bandaras manages to not be
annoying throughout most of the film.
The parts that I had trouble with were as follows:
1 - The way he manages to learn their languege in supposedly a few days
listening to them around the campfire.
2 - The use of the Mother Earth Goddess religious symbol for the
"Demons".
3 - They way in just a few hours Bandaras manages to turn a viking
broadsword into a sleek scimitar using a primative fire and anvil.
If you can overlook these minor things, then you too should enjoy this
film.
All in all, a good film. Well worth the price of admission. I
give this film:
